Faces of Japan #7: Okobe

Okabe is a rice farmer. He is 57 year's old and his family is growing rice on his farm for decades. His rice is well known across Japan for it's superior taste. Actually his rice is so good that he won the price for the best rice in Japan 7 years in a row. Unfortunately this is all gone as his rice farm is in Fukushima prefecture. Nobody wants to buy or eat his rice anymore. But Okabe is a fighter. Currently he is involved in a community project across Japan on how to improve the image of Fukushima agriculture products. Okobe came to Minamata to learn about how the City dealt with mercury poisoning in 1956 (see: Minamata disease).
